Updated April 2017

Automakers are paying heed to rightsizing engine technology, instead of just downsizing engines to enhance vehicle performance and fuel economy. Development of turbochargers for the next-generation small gasoline engines is in full swing with three objectives: minimising the weight and displacement added to the powertrain; making power potential equal to, or better than, larger engines; and meeting all emission norms.

Turbocharging is one of the key trends in the light vehicle sector today and it is one of the healthiest sectors in the components market. IHS Markit forecasts that the annual production of vehicles featuring turbochargers is expected to increase from 33.5 million units in 2015 to 62.5 million units in 2022 representing a CAGR of 9% during the time period.
